Reproductive Freedom Caucus Co-Chairs Call Out Trump Administration Hypocrisy on IVF
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Congressional Reproductive Freedom Caucus (RFC) Co-Chairs Reps. Diana DeGette (CO-01) and Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) released the following statement on the Trump administration’s latest executive order aimed at in vitro fertilization (IVF):
“Donald Trump is not serious about protecting people’s right to build their families on their terms, and yesterday’s inaction does not change that. Action would have been directing relevant agencies to expand IVF coverage for federal employees, servicemembers, and veterans, making it more affordable and accessible for millions of Americans. It would have been telling the Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority leader to pass the IVF legislation Republicans blocked last year, giving the American people enforceable protection for their right to IVF, as well as improved access.
Instead, the President’s actions so far have threatened federal funding for reproductive health care providers, terminated federal workers for no reason and left them with no health care coverage, stripped travel reimbursements for servicemembers attempting to access reproductive care, and attacked sexual and reproductive rights and health care access worldwide.
Actions speak louder than words. The American people will see yesterday’s Executive Order for exactly what it is: an empty, performative gesture while the Trump administration and the GOP continue their assault on reproductive health care.”
