Reproductive health care, including access to birth control and safe and legal abortion care, is an essential part of your health and well-being. While Roe v. Wade was overturned, abortion remains legal in many states, and other reproductive health care services remain protected by law. The Congressional Reproductive Freedom Caucus is committed to providing you with accurate and up-to-date information about access to and coverage of reproductive health care and resources.

ABORTION
Abortion, the medical termination of pregnancy, is a safe, effective, and normal part of reproductive health care. One in four American women will have an abortion in their lifetime. There are multiple methods of abortion care, including medication and surgical procedure. Some abortions can be self-managed at home, others accessed in a health care facility. Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortion is only legal in certain states, and access may vary based on location.

FAMILY PLANNING
Contraception, or birth control, helps millions of people across the United States prevent pregnancy and plan whether and when to have children. There are many methods of birth control, both reversible and permanent. Each of those methods is different in terms of effectiveness and expectations for the patient, and one type of birth control is not best for every person. In the United States, birth control is safe, legal, and effective, although your access to certain methods may vary based on location.

FERTILITY CARE
Fertility care encompasses a broad spectrum of health care services for those who need medical intervention to conceive, aimed at helping them achieve parenthood. Those treatments include assisted reproductive technologies (ART) like intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in-vitro fertilization (IVF), medications and surgical procedures, as well as counseling and support. While many prospective parents seek fertility care for diagnosis and treatment of infertility, access to fertility care is also of particular importance for LGBTQIA+ and single-parent families.

SEXUAL HEALTH & EDUCATION
From sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention and treatment to pregnancy options and outcomes, and from contraception to consent, age-appropriate education about sexual health and wellness is an essential part of reproductive health care. Access to sexual health resources, including medical care, is critical to public health, as well as to individuals’ reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy.
