Reproductive Freedom Caucus Co-Chairs Denounce GOP Attacks on Reproductive Health Care

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Congressional Reproductive Freedom Caucus (RFC) Co-Chairs Reps. Diana DeGette (CO-01) and Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) released this statement following passage of H.R. 21, the House GOP Reproductive Health Care Surveillance Act, or the so-called “Born-Alive” Abortion Survivors Protection Act:
“On the week of the Roe v. Wade anniversary, we are facing a storm of assaults on reproductive freedom, courtesy of Republican politicians.
In his first 24 hours as President, Donald Trump targeted and dismantled a critical website that shared resources and guidance for Americans seeking access to birth control, emergency contraception, abortion medication, and the full spectrum of reproductive health care. Basic health care to which they are entitled.
In the first 24 hours following what should have been the 52nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the extreme House GOP rushed a bill to the floor to limit access to reproductive health care and criminalize those who provide it. The Members of our Caucus did not stand for the lies about this dangerous bill or give legitimacy to this smokescreen. We stood strong and united against Republicans' attempt to fabricate a problem that does not exist to further their anti-abortion agenda. We stood strong with health care providers and families and their right to safety, autonomy, and dignity. And no matter what shameful behavior comes next from this majority, we will always stand strong for reproductive freedom.”
