Reproductive Freedom Caucus Co-Chairs Slam Illegal Trump Funding Freeze
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Congressional Reproductive Freedom Caucus (RFC) Co-Chairs Reps. Diana DeGette (CO-01) and Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) released the following statement on the Trump administration’s sweeping federal funding freeze, which targets hundreds of health programs, including reproductive health care providers:
“In the last 24 hours, the Trump administration unleashed chaos on reproductive health care providers and organizations across the country—in particular, the Title X Family Planning Program network. This network provides millions of low-income Americans with essential health services. For some, Title X health centers are their only source of health care. Now, Donald Trump is targeting those health centers as part of his extreme anti-abortion agenda.
As we race towards the deadline for this Trump funding freeze, and as the full picture of the President's harmful plan comes into place, Title X health centers and other recipients of federal grant funding are scrambling to understand the catastrophic repercussions this would have for their communities. Congress has already appropriated these funds. It is reckless and irresponsible, not to mention a crisis of constitutional proportions, to baselessly withhold them and create further disruptions for a reproductive health care landscape already under intense strain.
We urge the administration to reverse course immediately. This crisis is one of President Trump's making, and we will continue to stand firm against this and any effort to roll back access to reproductive health care.”
