Trump Budget an Unprecedented Attack on Women’s Health

May 23, 2017

WASHINGTON,DC – Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus Co-Chairs Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Louise Slaughter (D-NY) called the budget request submitted to Congress today by President Trump an unprecedented attack on women's health. The proposal would make drastic cuts to crucial programs and have a devastating impact on women's access to vital health care services.

"President Trump's budget request attacks women across the country by slashing support for the programs families rely on," DeGette and Slaughter said."In an unprecedented step, the president's proposal cuts off Health and Human Services funding for Planned Parenthood, which pays for cancer screenings, HIV/AIDS testing and other prevention services for women and men nationwide. It reverses the progress we have made in expanding access to quality care like preventive health screenings, sex education, and family planning. It also eliminates any mention of the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program, an evidence-based education effort that helps teenagers assure their future. All the while, it zeros out funding for international family planning. This budget is a continuation of this administration's never-ending crusade against women and their families. We will be working to ensure it never sees the light of day."
