WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Congressional Reproductive Freedom Caucus (RFC) Co-Chairs Reps. Diana DeGette (CO-01) and Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) released this statement following passage of H.R. 21, the House GOP Reproductive Health Care Surveillance Act, or the so-called “Born-Alive” Abortion Survivors Protection Act:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus (PCC) announced Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) will succeed former Congresswoman and Caucus Co-Chair Barbara Lee (CA-12), joining Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01) as Co-Chair for the 119th Congress. The Caucus also announced its new name: the Congressional Reproductive Freedom Caucus.

In politics, a “rider” isn’t a person but a small, often hard-to-spot provision that hitchhikes on a bigger bill, quietly steering policy in a particular direction. Major groups are now putting up a stop sign, calling on Congress to remove policy riders — in particular those originating in Project 2025 — that they say are hijacking must-pass legislation.

Of the 10 states where abortion rights were on the ballot on Tuesday, seven voted to expand or enshrine abortion rights. The results are emblematic of what pro-choice advocates have been saying for decades: Abortion rights are widely popular.
